Alright, so I am a huge animal lover. And this is a very funny touching story, but I must give you some quick information:

{My two "boys" do not get treated like dogs and do not usually act like dogs.

My boys are both brindle in color and mixed breeds...

Kobe, a 8 year young , great-dane/boxer, weighs 96 pounds & Chance, a 2 year young pitbull/bull mastif, weighs 92 pounds. Both were rescued. as puppies and been with us since!

Kobe is getting old, his hips are getting bad and he is beginning to suffer from ailments. We just spent over $1,000 treating him for heart worm disease. The cost was not even the worst of the treatment. I urge you to use preventive measures to protecct your animals from heartworm!

Kobe has also begun to suffer with epilepsy (a nervous disease characterized by sudden convulsions and unconsciousness followed by temporary stoppage of breath and rigidity of the body). It was frightening to see him go through the seizures and there was so little I could do. He is now on medicine for the seizures and has not had one for over 4 months (Thank God!).}

And now the story...

I am an advocate for many causes, one being Domestic Violence. While at lunch with my mother one day she asked me how I got the bruises on my arms. I am explaining to her how in the middle of the night Kobe nearly beat me to death, kicking and growling, and foaming at the mouth. And how I just couldn't control him. Telling her how scared I was for him and of him.

At a table nearby 3 women were enjoying their lunch. As they got up and walked by, the second woman stopped at my table and handed me a brochure on Domestic Violence! She smiled at me and told me that I did not need to live like that and I could do things to better my situation and she told me that she had put the phone number of the Domestic Shelter on the back. I politely accepted the information, smiled back at her and tried not to laugh.

Now, weeks later, I am awed at the woman for taking the time to concern herself with someone enough to put herself on the line like that. I could have been very rude to her (especially if I was being beaten by a man and not a dog), and still she opened herself up to whatever it wa I might throw at her so that she could do the right thing. Something that MANY of us would not have done.

I do not know this woman, and I am sorry to say that I did not thank her, hug her and tell her what a brave soul she is for caring about a stranger. I would like to tell her how she made me want to be a better, stronger person; and thank her for doing what so many of us do not, the right thing!

Speak Your Mind

For years I have walked away from people leaving them scratching (or shaking) their heads, wondering, I'm sure, just what it is that I am trying to accomplish. Unfortunately, it took 40 years and 1 brave soul for me to completely embrace this aspect of me.

As much as I would like to have a simple answer from them, there is not one. It certainly depends on the moment, I may be trying to accomplish preparing dinner, or plan a show, or organize a community fundraiser, or simply answer my sons question on "girls".

The simple fact is that no matter what it is, if it is worth my time then it is worth me being passionate about, and for that I will not make excuses or apologize for my behavior.

I'll be the first to admit that I can be easily fired up (o.k. I am a red-head!!!), if it's something that I am passionate about. I'll also be the first to admit that I am outspoken, brass, (a little) crude, determined, strong-willed, dedicated, persistent, overbearing, and the most loyal person you will ever have the pleasure of calling friend if you are a true person.

This will be the place where I entertain all my rants and raves, and if you agree, or don't feel, free to let me know.
